Sri Narasimha swamy vratham

NARASIMHA SWAMY VRATHAM

This is a collection of great vrathams, that fulfill all wishes for the devotees.

Introduction

In Bagavtham Narasimha Swami says to Prahaladha “Who learns about my Avathara ( Narisimha Avataram ) and your story, they will not be reborn. “                       In the Dasa avatars the first 4 are very different from the rest of them. The first four Avatars came by themselves, while in the later 6 avatars Lord Srimanarayana has taken birth like an ordinary human being.  Even in the first 4 avatars the fourth one Narasimha Avataram is very special.

In the southern part of our country, Especially in Andhra Pradesh there are several temples of Narasimha Swamy. Some of these are not well known. There is a special puja performed in these Narasimha Swamy temples. These temples, which were grand in the past, now do not have anyone to even light a lamp which makes us sad.

With the grace of the Lord I wrote 7 books on the lord now. All of them have been well received by the lord’s devotees. In these the second book “Sri Venkateswara Vratha Kalpam” was received very well by the public it is being performed in temples in India and abroad. Many devotees are performing this vratham at home regularly with great devotion and receiving the lords blessings. I could write all these books only due to the grace of Lord Srinivasa. I could write even this Narasimha vratham with the grace of the Lord. I only held the pen, the Lord wrote the words. I am only an instrument in the Lords hands. I strongly believe that this vratham will be performed regularly at temples and devotees homes with great devotion.

Writing these books is the fruits of my good deeds in the past births.  When I began writing this vratham and when I began writing the stories, both happened on the day of the birth star “Swati” of Lord Narasimha. This is nothing but his grace.

Sri Narasimha Swami loves his devotees a lot.  This vratha that the Lord himself has given is very easy to perform. Any kind of difficulties will vanish as soon as this vratham is performed.  The lord knows all our difficulties and limitations in this Kaliyuga. That is the reason the Lord has given us a very easy way to please him and get his blessings. Those who perform this Vratham, eat the prasadam, or read or listen to the stories with devotion, they will get rid of all their difficulties.

Many Salutations to Lord Narasimha and Goddess Lakshmi who gave us this luck (opportunity to write their stories). I will use my life to serve the Lord. My goal is taking the Narasimha Tatwa close to the hearts of the public.

I pray to Lord Narasimha and Goddess Lakshmi that all those who helped me write this book, those who perform this vratha, read or listen to the stories, or eat the prasadam get health, wealth, peace and prosperity.

Procedure of Vratha

In Kaliyug to get the grace of the Lord Narasimha, this Vratha is the easiest means. As soon as you perform this vratham any kind of difficulties will vanish. This vratha that was told by Lord Narasimha himself is very easy to perform. Anyone can perform this vratham anywhere. When you loose mental peace due to financial or health problems or any other kind of issues, As soon as you perform this vratham all your difficulties will vanish. Also if you are performing any auspicious ceremonies (Housewarming, marriages, starting education etc) You could do this vratham. If you do this vratham to improve your job or business prospects you will get good results immediately.

This vratham can be done at any time. If it is performed in months Magha, Vaishakah, Sravana, Karthika, Margasira months or on Dasami, Ekadasi, Pournami or during the days of stars Poorva palguni, Swathi or Shravana, It gives a lot more fruits.

You can do this vratham in the morning or evening. This vratham has 5 stories. This vratham can be done in your home, rented home, temple or holy place or at the bank of a river.

As far as possible invite your friends and relatives.  First clean the place where the vratham will be performed well. Then we should keep the photo of Lakshmi Narsimha and keep a Kalasam (Small tumbler of water with a coconut on top.).

Pray to the Lord Vinayaka made of turmeric powder that the vratham should be completed successfully. You should then pray to the Navagrahas (nine panets) and Ashtha dikpalakas(8 gods governing the directions)

If a person performs this vratham with good devotion and dedication, the Lord himself will come there in some form and take the Prasadam and Thirtham.

The other important thing that the Lord himself said is that if we cannot perform the vratham so elaborately one can perform it sitting alone.  Sit in front of the photo of  the Lord and pray to Lord Vigneshwara first. Then pray to the Navagrahas and Ashtha dikpalakas. Keep in a tray some Tulasi leaves, coconut and other fruits and flowers. Do Namaskaram to the Lord and read the stories in the mind and then offer the coconut fruits and flowers to the Lord. Also take them as prasadam, then your difficulties will surely be removed.

The Lord loves Tulasi leaves a lot. If you offer Tulasi leaves during the prayer, Great fruits will be obtained. If you take these Tulasi leaves after the prayer as prasadam and give it to everyone too. Everyone will get good health ,wealth and prosperity. After the vratham need to break the coconut and distribute it along with the prasadam. It is good if we distribute Pulihara too.

If possible it is better to do this vratham nicely with the Kalasam and all.  Only if it is not possible to do elaborately we can do as above.

One thing we all must remember, No one knows all our difficulties like the Lord.  That is why if we do the vratham remembering the merciful lord we will get the fruit of it. All our difficulties will vanish.

SRI NARASIMHA VRATHA KALPAM

First Story

In olden days, in Avanthi Nagar, in Krishna patnam there was a priest named Ananthacharya. He used to spend all his time praying to the lord in the Yoga Narasimha Swamy temple. His wife Sumathi also had a lot of devotion towards the lord. That couple was happy in all ways except that they had no kids even after 12 years of their marriage. This fact made them unhappy. They prayed to the lord daily asking for children.

After some time the lord who loves his devotees a lot came in Anantacharyas dream and said “ Oh Acharya Purusha !  You and your wife pray to me everyday with lots of devotion. This makes me very happy.  I will tell you a way that will give you a nice son very soon. The month of Shravan has begun yesterday only. On the day on which Swati nakshatra Perform the Narasimha vratham.     Due to the fruit of that vratham you will beget a son. This vratham is very easy. Tomorrow morning a devotee called Vishwanadha will come from a far away place.  My beloved devotee Vishwanadha will tell you in detail about this vratham. If you perform the vratham as he tells you, you will surely get a child. “ Then the lord disappeared .

As soon as Ananthacharya woke up he told his wife Sumathi about the dream. She was very happy. They both got up earlier then everyday had a bath and came to the temple. By the time the Suprabatham and Archana were done, An old Brahmin came and stood with the other devotees. After the puja Anantacharya distributed prasadam to all devotees and he saw the old Brahmin.  The Brahmin was very happy and smiled after taking the prasadam. Anantacharya guessed that this is the Vishwanadha the Lord told him in the dream about.

Then the old Brahmin introduced himself as Vishwanadha and called Anantacharya and Sumathi aside and said “The lord loves you a lot. You surely will receive his blessings soon. Then Anantacharya and Sumathi bowed to Vishwanadha and said that we understand you are the bhakta the Lord told us about in the dream yesterday night. Please do tell us how to perform the Narasimha Vratham.

Then Vishwanadha said “I will surely tell you. This is all the Lords grace. I am telling you the procedure of the vratham with the grace of the Lord. Listen carefully.

“Oh devotees, Sri Narasimha vratham is very powerful.  If you do this vratham with all proper formalities, You will get all kinds of prosperity. Any kind of disease will surely vanish. Any kind of fear of enemies, mental problems, physical problems, difficulties due to the positions of the planets, will all vanish as soon as one performs this vratham.  As soon as this vratham is done all auspicious things will happen and you will obtain wealth.  You can perform this vratham on any day without seeing the day of week, nakshatra and tidhi. Keep photo of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. First perform Vigneswhara puja. Then you should do Kalasa puja and then perform the puja to the Lord. Then you should read the 5 stories. Make Prasadam with cracked wheat or Soji and offer it to the Lord. If you offer Pulihara with this it is good. This

vratham will give much better results if it is performed in the months of Magha, Vaishaka , Sravana, Kartika and Margasira or on the Dasimi, Ekadasi or Pournami days or on the days with the stars PurvaPalguni, or Swati or Shravana. In which ever house this vratham is performed, all the inmates of the house, those who listen to the stories and those who eat the prasadam will get all kinds of prosperity. If this vratham is done in the temple, Not only that city but it gives auspicious results to all the surrounding cities too. All the business men will get good profits, Those who are studying will get good jobs, Unmarried girls will get good husbands and all the married woman will be Sumangalis, their husbands will get a long life. All the people in that city will get all kinds of prosperity.  On the coming Swati Nakshatram day you both can perform this vratham and receive the lords blessings.

Anantacharya said to Vishwanadha “Swami we do not know where you came from. You look like my fathers age. Please stay in our house till that day make us perform the vratham. They pleaded.  The old Brahmin said alright, I will help you perform the vratham.  Then Anantacharya and Sumathi performed the vratham with full devotion and concentration and were blessed with a son. They always prayed to the lord they lived very happily and finally attained Moksha.

SRI NARASIMHA VRATHAM

Second Story

In olden days King Vikramasimha ruled Kalinga Country .  Vikramasimha ruled the kingdom very well with the help of his intelligent ministers.  All the neighboring kings were jealous of Vikramasimha.  When ever possible they would try to conquer his kingdom, but they would loose the battle at the hands of the brave Vikramasimha. Among these neighboring kings the king of Kosala kept waging war against Kalinga in spite of loosing at the hands of Vikramasimha several times.  Vikramasimha got fed  up of all this.  He decided he has to completely defeat the King of Kosala. He prepared his army and started to Kosala to wage war on an auspicious day that the ministers had decided.

It would take one week to reach Kosala. Vikramasimha would take rest along with the entire army at night and continue the journey during the day.  On the third day night King Vikramasimha was resting along with his army near a small village.                                                    When the King was discussing the war matters with his ministers a soldier came. He said “Maharaja! I have a small request. Close to this place there is a village called SingamaPalle. In that village there is a very ancient temple of Lord Narasimha.  In that temple the Lord is in five forms Yoga, Abhaya, Jwala, Dhyana and Lakshmi Narasimha. He has been receiving prayers for generations now.                                            I pray that you should take darshana of that Lord.

The king agreed to that and went to the temple along with the ministers. He had a darshana of the Lord and prayed mentally saying “ Oh Swami! Narasimha! After I win this war while going back to my country, I will have your darshan again. I will also perform your vratham after reaching my country.  In this battle Please give me Victory.       He even told this to his minister Dharma buddhi.

In the morning Vikramasimha started with the army and reached Kosala by the end of the week.  With the Lords grace he won over the King of Kosala.                              They wanted to take the King of Kosala as a prisoner. He prayed to King Vikramasimha that he will never again come to fight a war with Kalinga. So they left him. The entire army was happy over the victory.       In this happiness Vikramasimha forgot the vow he took to Lord Narasimha.  He reached Kalinga and is happily spending time with his queen.

Even after months he did not think of Narasimha swami. The lord got angry That is all.     That night Vikramasimha got a mysterious disease, his legs and hands got paralyzed and he could not even talk. The royal doctors tried all kinds of medicines and nothing made any difference.  Everyday night he would shout of fear. All the ministers could not understand why this was happening.  One night the minister Dharma buddhi saw in his dream 5 Lions shouting very ferociously.

When the minister was thinking about the meaning of the dream he remembered that the king had darshan of Lord Narasimha while going to Kosala and he had vowed to do the vratham if he won the war.  He realized that was the reason for the king’s disease.

The minister immediately went to the queen and told about the Kings vow.  Since that day was Swathi nakshatram the queen decided to perform the vratham that day itself she did fast the whole day and performed the vratham with devotion in the evening. With the lords grace the Vikramnarasimha got rid of his disease and became healthy again.  On an auspicious day the king and queen went with their entire family to SingamaPale .  They prayed to Narasimha swami there in five forms and begged him for forgiveness.  That night he stayed in Singamapale the next day he again performed the Lords Vratham took prasadam and went back to his country.

He ruled Kalinga very well and lived happily . Om Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaya Namaha Dwithiya Adhyayam Samptham

Third Story

In olden days on the banks of Godavari, there was a village called Krishnagiri. On one side of that village was a dense forest. There were about 500 people living in Krishnagiri. There were big black walls around the village and hence it got the name Krishnagiri.  On one of the sides of Krishnagiri was a temple of Sri Narasimha swami That temple was very ancient and famous.  Lord Shiva himself had come and prayed to the Lord here. Everybody believed that those who trust that Lord do not face any kind of problems.  None of the Lords devotees ever got any diseases they had a very prosperous life.

In the Lords temple there was a priest called Srinivasa Acharya.  All his forefathers had always come to this town and prayed to the Lord so Srinivasa acharya wanted to live there and spend his life in the Lords service.  He would do all the pujas for the devotees who came to the temple with a lot of devotion. Srinivasa Acharyas wife also would help in the Lords service by getting up early and picking flowers.

Srinivasa Acharya had two daughters, They were Sri Lakshmi and Jai Lakshmi. They both were very good girls.  When Sri Lakshmi reached her youth, her father started looking for good grooms for her. He informed all his acquaintances that his daughter is there for marriage and to inform him if they know any good boys.  Every day early morning during Suprabatha seva to Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha, He prayed to the lord to get his daughters married to nice boys. The Lord who gives all prosperity to his devotees showed his mercy on Srinivasa acharya.

There was Sri Rama Kalyanam in the Rama temple at Ramagiri which was 15 miles away from Krishnagiri.                                            Srinivasa acharya was invited to it.   Srinivasa Acharya went there along with his wife and daughters.  They all stayed there for 4 days and participated in the Kalyana Utsavam.  In the Brahmins who came for the Kalyana Utsavam one of them had a son of marriageable age called Venkata Nadha. Sri Lakshmi’s and Venkata Nadha's horoscopes matched very well. Hence their marriage was fixed. Then Srinivasa acharya went back to Krishnagiri.

Two months later on one auspicious day Srinivasa Acharya along with his family, relatives and friends went to Ramagiri for the his daughter Sri Lakshmi’s engagement ceremony. They had to cross the jungle using bullock carts.

They all were talking merrily.  When they were in the middle of the jungle a big group of thieves attacked them. Srinivasa Acharya prayed to the thieves to spare them since they were going for their daughter’s engagement, but there was no use. The thieves were cruel and tried to rob them of all their possessions.

Then Srinivasa Acharya could not do anything else so he prayed to his Lord Narasimha “Swami! The Savior of those in difficulties! We have no other savior other than you. Please save us”. From the nearby bushes a Lion came with the speed of

lightening. The Lion jumped on the thieves. Even Srinivasa Acharyas family was afraid of the lion. It did not harm the people in Srinivasa Acharya’s family or friends. Even the bullocks which usually are frightened of a Lion did not move at all.  The thieves ran away leaving all the possessions and the Lion ran back to the bushes very fast.

Then Srinivasa Acharya and his family understood that Lord Narasimha itself came in the form of the Lion to save them.  All of them sang several songs in praise of the Lord. They reached Ramagiri safely and got the engagement ceremony performed grandly.  After some days Sri Lakshmi's marriage with Venkatanadha also took place grandly. The couple lived happily serving Lord Narasimha.

Fourth Story

In olden days in Kalinga Desa there was a city called Narsingapuram.  Although it was a city it looked like a very spacious village. All the people of the city were very happy.  In that city there was a very ancient temple of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. There was a specialty to the idols of the Lord and Goddess Lakshmi over here.  In which  ever direction the devotee stands and looks at the Lord and his consort, it would seem that the Lord was looking that side only.  Also the Lord here was very famous for granting all the wishes of his devotees. It is said that Lord Shiva himself had did the pratishta of the idols in this temple. Also the devotees believed that all the devas  came every night to pray to the Lord here.

Every day many devotees came from near and far to see the Lord. With all the money the devotees would give the temple grew well.                          The temple had about 50 acres of land donated by devotees.  There was a lot of jewelery that many devotees have been offering for generations. They put the jeweler on the Lords idols during special festivals only.  The trustee of the temple “Ramayya” had devoted his life to the Lord. He got many services done for the lord on his own expense.

In that city among the good devotees there was one called “Chalamayya”. Chalamayya was very rich but very miserly.  He would cheat people in his business and make money in untruthful ways.  He set his eyes on the temple’s wealth.  He thought he should get authority over the temple so he could rob its wealth.

Using his connections Chalamayya made Ramayya resign from the position of Trustee and he himself became the trustee of the temple. Each week he would come to the temple and find out how much money the temple got that week. Every month he would open the hundi and get all the offerings counted.  If there were any valuables he would take them home. After some days he became so miserly that he took the coconuts that the devotees home too.

The priests in the temple felt very bad seeing Chalamayya’s behavior . They would pray to the Lord saying “ Swami! Please save yourself Lord”. They would wait and see when the Lord would punish Chelamayya.  That day came. One day night got a dream that a lion was jumping over his bed and roaring and going round his bed several times.  Chalamayya was very afraid of the lion, it also threw all the things in the house.  It became morning Chalamayya woke up and was glad it was only a dream. Just then his wife came running and said everything in the house is scattered. Chalamayya ran and saw that everything was scattered and there were the paw prints of a lion on the wall.  He realized what he saw was not a dream. He was worried and he realized the lord himself had come in the lions form.

Chalamayya thought the Lord was warning him in this way for the injustice he was doing to the temple.  He immediately gave back the trusteeship of the temple to

Ramayya in presence of everyone.  No one understood how he changed so much in one night. The priests were very happy that Ramayya was the trustee now.

Chalamayya stopped his unjust ways and served the Lord. He lived there the rest of his life and earned a good name.

Fifth Story

In Olden days in a town called Rathnagiri there was a carpenter named Kurmanadha. His wife was Indumathi.  Kurmanadha and Indumathi were a loving couple and they were both religious. They prayed daily.  Due to the karma of past lives they did not have children after 10 years of marriage.  They were both always wishing for children. Kurmanadha was very skilled in carpentry and earned well. They had a comfortable life.

Once Kurmanadha got work to make doors, he needed rose wood for that. He went to the merchant Narayana Setthi who deals in rose wood.  The merchant Narayana Setthi was a great devotee of Lord Narasimha and he spent a lot of time in prayers. After Kurmanadha took the wood he wanted and paid for it, he came to know that there was Sri Narasimha vratham taking place in the merchants house. He wanted to see the vratham so he kept the wood he bought over there and went to see the vratham at the merchant’s house which was close to the shop.  Narayana Setthi and his wife are doing the vratham. A lot of relatives and friends had come. Kurmanadha sat in the last row and heard the stories, He heard two stories.

By the time the third story began his brother Kasinadha came running and said “Brother, A trader has come to our house for you from another city.  He wants to get a lot of Carpentry work done in his house. I found out you are here and came. We will immediately go home come.  If we get late the trader will go back to his town.

Then Kurmanadha said “Kasi! Narasimha vratham is going on here.  Two stories are over, the third one is going on. Let us listen to the remaining two stories take the Lord’s prasadam and go.  Kasinadha was not ready to listen he was making his brother hurry. Kurmanadha said he will not go unless the five stories are over. In spite of Kasinadha forcing him to go home quickly Kurmanadha made sure he listened to all the stories.

There seemed to be delay in distributing the prasadam, Kasinadha told his brother that we can come back and take it later. Kurmanadha could not do anything so he just said I will come back later to take prasadam and went home. By the time they dealt with the trader it became late. Kurmanadha forgot about the prasadam.

Due to the result of listening to the stories of Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha vratham, Kurmanadha had a son within one year. Due to bad luck that boy was lame.

They were happy that they had a son but sad that he was crippled. The boy turned seven but could not walk. A sadhu came to their town.  Kurmanadha came to know that the Sadhu was powerful.  Kurmanadha met the sadhu and told about his son.   The sadhu closed his eyes and meditated then told Krmanadha. Remember some years ago you heard the Sri Lakshmi Narashimha vratha stories and did not take the prasadam.  The Lord is angry with you that is the reason this has happened.  I will tell you the way to get rid of your sons lameness. Take your son and go to Narasimha Swami’s temple that is 20 miles away from here.  Do the vratham.

Kurmanadha and family went to the temple the very next week. The temple was on a hill and there were about 200 steps to climb. Kurmanadha put his son on his shoulder and climbed. After climbing about 50 steps he got tired and kept the boy on a step  and sat there to rest. As soon as the boys leg touched the step he became normal and started climbing the steps. Their joy knew no bounds.  They knew this was the Lords miracle. They climbed all the steps with devotion they saw the Lord and did Sri Lakshmi Narasimha vratham.  From then on every month on Swathi nakshatra day they would go to the temple see the Lord and perform the vratham.

Narasimha Mantras for protection

Narasimha who is one of the most powerful avatars of Lord Vishnu, (the protector in the Hindu Triad) is known to be fierce to fight and remove all that is evil and as a result protect all his devotees from every negative aspect of life. He is regarded as the embodiment of victory of good over evil.

Vishnu assumed this fierce form on top of Himvat mountain (Harivamsa). He is believed to have taken the avatar to destroy the demon king Hiranyakashipu.

Lord Narasimha is said to have half human and half lion appearance where the torso and the lower body is that of human while the face and claws are that of a ferocious lion. In conjunction with the bodily appearances, Lord Narasimha is described in various forms and is said to have about more than 74 forms with respect to different postures and weapons that he holds in his hands. The 9 main ones are collectively known as Nava-narasiс╣Бha and as follows :

Ugra-narasiс╣Бha
Kroddha-narasiс╣Бha
V─лra-narasiс╣Бha
Vilamba-narasiс╣Бha
Kopa-narasiс╣Бha
Yoga-narasiс╣Бha
Aghora-narasiс╣Бha
Sudar┼Ыana-narasiс╣Бha
Lakс╣гm─л-narasiс╣Бha
Out of these forms, the Lakс╣гm─л-narasiс╣Бha is the form where Goddess Lakshmi is sitting on His lap and the Lord is calmer than the other forms.

Due to the nature of Narasiс╣Бha’s form (divine anger), it is essential that worship be given with a very high level of attention compared to other deities.

In many temples only lifelong celibates (Brahm─Бc─Бrya) are able to have the chance to serve as priests to perform the daily puja. Forms where Narasiс╣Бha appears sitting in a yogic posture, or with the Goddess Lakс╣гm─л are the exception to this rule, as Narasiс╣Бha is taken as being more relaxed.

The form and outlook of Lord Narasimha teach us that evil does not triumph over good. Those who support malevolence would be annihilated by God as He is everywhere. A number of Mantras in Sanskrit herald, praise and pray to Lord Narasimha and chanting any chosen Narasimha Mantra with due reverence, diligence and devotion can remove fears and bestow all good on the devotees. A collection of simple, but profound Narasimha Mantras that can confer multifarious benefits are as given below.

Narasimha Mantra

Narasimha Maha Mantra
“Om hrim ksaumugram viram mahavivnumjvalantam sarvatomukham।
Nrsimham bhisanam bhadrammrtyormrtyum namamyaham ॥”

Meaning: ‘Oh Angry and brave Maha-Visnu, your heat and fire permeate everywhere. O Lord Narasimha, you are everywhere. You are the death of death and I surrender to You.’

Ito nrsimhah parato nrsimho, yato yato yami tato nrsimhah, bahir nrsimho hrdaye nrsimho, nrsimham adim saranam prapadye ||”

Meaning: ‘I offer my obeisances to Lord Narasimha, who gives joy to Prahlada Maharaja and whose nails are like chisels on the stone like chest of the demon Hiranyakasipu.

Lord Narasimha is here and also there. Wherever I go Lord Narasimha is there. He is in the heart and is outside as well. I surrender to Lord Narasimha, the origin of all things and the supreme refuge.’

Benefit : This is a powerful mantra that when recited regularly will relieve people of their debts and insolvency however severe and acute and give protection against any further problematic situations.

Dasavatara Stotra
“Tava kara-kamala-vare nakham adbhuta-srngam,
dalita-hiranyakasipu-tanu-bhrngam,
kesava dhrta-narahari-rupa jaya jagadisa hare ||”

Meaning: O Kesava! O Lord of the universe! O Hari, who have assumed the form of half-man and half-lion, all glories to You! Just as one can easily crush a wasp between one’s fingernails, so in the same way the body of the wasp-like demon Hiranyakasipu has been ripped apart by the wonderful pointed nails on your beautiful lotus hands.’

Kamasikashtakam
“Tvayi raksati raksakaih kimanyaih,
tvayi caraksati raksakaih kimanyaih iiti niscita dhih srayami nityam,
nrhare vegavati taс╣нasrayam tvam॥”

Meaning: ‘O Kamasikha Narasimha! You are sarva sakthan. When you are resolved to protect some one, where is the need to seek the protection of anyone else? When you are resolved not to protect some one, which other person is capable of protecting us? There is no one. Knowing this fundamental truth, I have resolved to offer my saraс╣Зagati at your lotus feet alone that rest at the banks of Vegavati river.’

Divya Prabandham

“Adi adi agam karaindhu isaipadip padik kannir malgi engumnadi nadi narasinga endru, vadi vaduum ivval nuthale ||”

Meaning: ‘I will dance and melt for you, within my heart, to see you, I will sing in praise of you with tears of joy, I will search for Narasiс╣Бha and I am a householder who still searches to reach you (to attain Salvation).’

Narasimha Gayatri Mantra
“Om Nrisimhaye vidmahe vajranakhaya dhimahi tan no simhah Prachodayat |
Vajra nakhaya vidmahe tikshna damstraya dhimahi tan no narasimhah Prachodayat ||”

Meaning: ‘Om! Let us be well aware of Nrisimha, the lightning-nailed. May the Lion promote our thought and actions. Let us meditate on He who is known as the possessor of nails as hard as thunderbolts and sharp teeth. Let us all be enthused by Lord Narasimhadeva.”

Sri Narasimha Maha Mantra
It is stated in Shastra that this mantra is the essence of all kavacha mantras, or mantras meant for wearing in a kavacha (capsule). The mantra is often written on a small piece of bark, such as from the botch tree. Then it is sealed in the capsule with a tulasi (Holy Basil) leaf or even flower petals that have been offered to the deity of Lord Narasimha. After worshipping the deity of Lord Narasimha with sixteen upacharas or items of worship, the pujari or priest performs a ritual called prana-pratistha: he calls the Lord to reside in the kavacha. He then worships the kavacha. Then it has full protective power. Men can wear the kavacha around the neck or on the upper right arm, while women wear it around the neck or on the upper left arm. The Kavacha may be worn in all circumstances, at any time, or in any place.

“Ugram viram maha-vishnum jvalantam sarvato mukham |
nrisimham bhishanam bhadram mrityur mrityum namamy aham ||”

Meaning : ‘I bow down to Lord Narasimha who is ferocious and heroic like Lord Vishnu. He is burning from every side. He is terrific, auspicious and the death of death personified.’

Narasimha Prapatti
“Mata narasimha, pita narasimha
Bratha narasimha, sakha narasimha
Vidyaa narasimha, dravinam narasimha
Swami narasimha, sakalam narasimha
Itho narasimha, paratho narasimha
Yatho yatho yahihi, tatho narasimha
Narasimha devaath paro na kaschit
Tasmaan narasimha sharanam prapadye ||”

Meaning: ‘Mother is Narasimha; Father is Narasimha
Brother is Narasimha; Friend is Narasimha
Knowledge is Narasimha; Wealth is Narasimha
My Lord is Narasimha; Everything is Narasimha.
Narasimha is in this world, Narasimha is everywhere (Omnipresent)
Wherever I go, there is Narasimha
Narasimha is the Supreme Lord, there is none other than HIM
So, I humbly seek refuge in you, Shri Narasimha.’

Benefit: A simple sloka that acts as a ‘great protective shield’ at all times.

Narasimha Mantra Benefits
Narasimha Mantras, also known as Kavacha mantras have the power of protecting those who chant it. The literal meaning of Kavacha is armor or breast plate that the soldiers wear during wars to protect their bodies from the deadly weapons. In the same manner, the Kavacha mantras act as protective shields to safeguard the welfare of the devotees. If so, then imagine how powerful Narasimha Mantra could be when the sole purpose behind the incarnation of Lord Naraismha is to save his devotee.

Lord Narasimha is highly benign and merciful though he might appear ferocious. He came to being in response to the answer given by Prahlad to his angry father. When Hiranyakasipu, the demon king was torturing his son Prahlad since he was devoted to Lord Vishnu, the difficulties and dangers endured by Prahlad came to a saturation point. However, he was bearing all the troubles with patience and smile with a sense of total faith and surrender. At a point, Hiranyakashipu grew weary with the unchanging attitude of his son and asked him where Lord Vishnu was and whether Prahlad could show him. To this, Prahlad said he resides in every atom of the universe. Hearing this, Hiranyakashipu struck a pillar in the palace with his mace and asked whether Lord Vishnu was there in the pillar. When Prahlad smiled in confirmation, Lord Vishnu assumed the Narasimha form and emanated from the pillar only to kill the vicious demon Hiranyakashipu with his finger nails. Prahlad witnessed the divine incarnation and wondered at the majestic appearance of the Lord. The Lord blessed Prahlad and returned to his divine abode.

Chanting Narasimha Mantra can, therefore, remove all sufferings and alleviate the troubles of people. It can bestow the state of fearlessness, peace, prosperity and tranquility.

To have Lord Narasimha in one’s favour and get the best of results from chanting His mantras, one must keep in mind the following things :

One should start chanting from a Thursday facing north.
Yellow clothes should be worn for this purpose.
A ghee lamp should be lit in front of Lord Narasimha and he should be offered with incense & flowers.
Thus, worshipping Lord Narasimha is the way to attain the ultimate salvation in life and get rid of everything evil and harmful. Chanting His mantras makes one’s life fall into sync and his mental peace is known to stay undisturbed.
